5 Months

Since Blakelyn is now 6 months old, writing about the 5th month seems as though nothing special happened.  Then I look back at all the blogs I have already posted! Busy month for Blakelyn!

Some of what I haven't already blogged about:

Blakelyn began to notice the functionality of her hands.  She lays there in mesmerization as she opens, closes, and twists her hands.   She also began to notice her feet, just seeing them (since they are now uncovered due to a wardrobe change with the season).

Blakelyn will now experience/express anticipation.  She’ll start giggling before we tickle her.

Blakelyn is officially done with the pacifier.  She will suck her two middle fingers with her palm facing outward (this being all on the left hand of course), and has begun sucking her wrist.

We tried putting her in a swing at the in neighborhood park,

but she is not yet ready…

We have also observed that when we put her down for bed that she will roll to her side, preferably the left side:

Unofficial stats:

Height: 26.5 inches (longer in the torso than legs)
Weight: 13.6 lbs.
Head Circumference: 16.25 inches

Baby's got get her beauty sleep/ growth spurts on:

Teal Heirloom Dress

The week just prior to Blakelyn's Baptism, I took a sewing class.  I had taken an Heirloom sewing class last year when I was 6 weeks pregnant. Since I didn't know the gender of the baby, nor were we telling anyone we were pregnant at the time, I made a dress to put into my "hope chest" in hopes of one day having a girl to put into this dress:

Whew good thing we had a girl first!

I thought this would be the only dress I would make for my daughter... however, once Blakelyn was born I knew I wanted to make many more.  Since Blakelyn has red hair, she looks fantastic in blue!!, I thought I would make a teal color as well.  That and last year another woman made a teal dress that I just LOVED.  The colors teal and blue both bring out Blakelyn's blue eyes and compliment her hair color and skin tone.
I just love my recessive baby!!

Finished product:

Sleeve:
I'll put a cream ribbon through the beading lace.

Yoke:

Fancy Band:

Back placket:
I received two heirloom pins for Christmas that I can use to fasten it.

My model:
A tad bit too big!

Of course all she wanted to do was play with it and pull it up to expose her belly.
Not sure if I'll have a dress wearer or not, but hopefully when she is 1.5 or 2 years old she'll at least fit into it.

You might be asking how did I make this dress with a baby.

The Baby Bjorn:
I was able to bring Blakelyn with me everyday.  I had her swing with me and the owner of the store graciously offered to watch her while I sewed.  When the store got busy I would wear Blakelyn.

Blakelyn loved looking around and watching everyone sew.  She also enjoyed the soothing hum of all the sewing machines.

Naturally I would have to feed Blakelyn so often during the day, enter the hooter hider I made.
At least my boobs were covered up, the rest of me and her, well not so much with a wiggle worm.

Not sure if this counts as rolling over or not, but many times I would find Blakelyn like this:
It counts for me!
